UN's Global Goals

Affordable and Clean Energy

Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Responsible Consumption and Production

Here you can read how we contribute to improving four of the 17 global goals.

(7.2) Affordable and Clean Energy:

By 2030, substantially increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.

We are exploring the possibility of entering into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the construction of a solar farm and, through this, sourcing all our electricity sustainably. Electricity today (January 2022) accounts for 70% of our energy consumption.

In addition, we serve customers in both the wind and solar industries, and in this way we are actively helping to increase the share of renewable energy.

(9.4) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure:

By 2030, upgrade infrastructure and retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and more widespread adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes. All countries must act according to their respective capacities.

We have begun the work of replacing gas boilers with more environmentally friendly heat pumps. Five of our halls have already been fitted with heat pumps, which has reduced our carbon footprint by more than 200,000kg of CO2.

Regarding infrastructure, we service Per Aarsleff A/S with electrification of the Danish railway network.

And we are in the process of building charging points for our electric cars.

(11.6) Sustainable Cities and Communities:

By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management.

We have already replaced our internal fleet from predominantly diesel and gas-powered trucks to electric trucks and vehicles. And, for the part of our fleet that cannot be replaced by electric vehicles, we are using GTL Fuel.

The electric vehicles have reduced carbon emissions and other particulate emissions by 100%, while GTL Fuel for the remaining vehicles has reduced particulate emissions by 38%.

(12.5) Responsible Consumption and Production:

By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

Our R&D department has focused on how we and our customers can work together to optimise their steel parts, among other things by reducing the amount of steel. This is without compromising on the quality that only steel can offer.

And, of course, we are making sure that your scrap is being sorted and recycled into new steel.

(12.6) Responsible Consumption and Production:

Encourage companies, especially large and transnational companies, to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle.

We aim to highlight our customers’ carbon footprint in the part of their value chain in which we operate – steel. But we want to do more than that. We also want to show our customers a greener alternative.

We will also make use of carbon accounting.
